More About Us
-
We currently have about 40 members.
-
Our boundaries include: Old Lyme, Lyme, East Lyme, Waterford, Old Saybrook, Westbrook, Chester, Deep River, and Essex.
-
Many parents in the club are new parents or have elementary aged children, but parents with kids of all ages are welcome.
-
Members can host events during the day, on weekdays or weekends- the more options to connect, the better as everyone has different schedules.
-
We will do our best to schedule monthly "social" meetings after school or on weekends to try and accommodate the most families.
-
We also host evenings out for adults only, typically once a month from trivia nights to dessert and drinks.
-
Any member can choose to host an event and post it to the private Facebook group. Pick the time and event that works best for you as the host and members with similar schedules can RSVP and join you.
-
Typical meetups in the past have included: playground playdates, library events, hosting coffee and crafts at someone's house, hikes, stroller walks, touring a fire station, gardening playdates, breakfast out, beach meetups, picnics at a park.
-
Our private Facebook page is active almost daily with posted events, resources, members asking for advice, or humor. We also keep this space open for discourse and a range of modern parenting experiences. Healthy debate is natural, but should be free of bullying, hate speech, or degrading language.
-
Both in person and on Facebook we value holding a safe space for all: races, religions, cultures, sexual orientations, genders and identities.
-
We plan two to four service projects a year to participate in our community. Suggestions and help planning are always welcome.
-
The primary purpose of the club is supporting the parents themselves - this often looks like playdates with kids but the children must be with a registered FCCRV member to attend any event. Ex. a grandparent or nanny is welcome to an event with the parent to support but not in lieu of the member.
-
We love all members to actively participate by attending and when comfortable, hosting events. We also acknowledge everyone has different needs, comfort levels, and schedules. The more members participate, the more active, supportive, and fun our club will become!
-
Dues are $25 per year. Any member (an individual parent or two partners) who plans to join will fill out a waiver and information form but dues are only paid once per household. If there is a financial hardship, we do offer assistance. Money collected for the FCCRV is used for our programs and service projects. Any unused funds are donated to local charities at the end of the year.
-
The chapter is run by an unpaid, volunteer board. All board positions are up for election every year and all members are welcome to run for any position (even if you are brand new to the club itself). Joining the board is a great way to meet other members and take a turn to help the club continue to thrive for current and future members who need support.

** During covid we will continue to follow updated CDC guidelines for gathering. We acknowledge every family has different comfort levels, reach out to a board member if you have questions or concerns.
